  • HDAL 3610 - Counseling Theory and Practice

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites: HDAL 2320 

    Counseling Theory and Practice examines the major theories and applications of counseling, focusing primarily on psychodynamic, cognitive, behavioral, humanistic, and existential/phenomenological approaches to helping people gain more health and happiness in their lives. Applied psychotherapies include individual and group counseling methods, family therapy, brief counseling, career counseling, in home and residential counseling, and expressive therapies.

  • HDAL 4137 - Youth Violence - Intervention to Prevention

    (3 credits)
    This course is designed to inform and train individuals in a variety of fields that deal with children and youth. The course is a combination of defining the concept of violence in society, evaluating current research in the field, and looking at practical strategies for developing protective factors for youth. Students will view various media representations of violence patterns and solutions, review current literature, and listen to some brief lecture material. The majority of time will be spent on student interaction with each other and the instructor.

  • HDAL 4710 - Practicum

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites: HDAL 3510 

    The Practicum is designed for entry level field experience in human services. Placement into a supervised setting with a local human services organization will provide training and experience for eventual professional employment. The purpose of this course is to allow students the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge acquired in an academic setting to a human service organization serving individuals, groups, and/or families. The practicum requires 135 hours of field experience as partial fulfillment of their 300 hours of required field experiences.

  • HDAL 4720 - Internship

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites: HDAL 4710 .

    The Internship accompanies the practicum with additional field experience in human services and prepares the student for intensive skill and career development. This course offers students an opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge and practical experience to a particular work environment under the supervision of experienced personnel. This course requires 135 hours of field experience as partial fulfillment of 300 hours of required field experience.

  • LEAD 4467 - Leadership Theory and Practice

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites: Successful completion of 60 credit hours.

    The study of leadership from a historical and contemporary perspective. Students identify, apply, and reflect on aspects of leadership development, including concepts of personal change toward effective leadership in a changing environment. Topics cover personal assessment and development, values and ethics, power and influence, followership, group dynamics, controversy with civility, and citizenship. Students observe a decision-making group outside of class over the course of the semester.

  • MGMT 3050 - Decision Science

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites: ECON 2080  and junior standing.

    An introduction to basic management science methods emphasizing application and interpretation by managers. Topics include model-building process, decision theory, Bayesian decision analysis, linear programming methods including the simplex method and assignment and transportation models, basic inventory and production models, queuing models, and Monte Carlo simulation. Computer program packages are used.

  • MGMT 3100 - Production/Operations Management

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites: MGMT 3000 .

    Introduction to operating systems and operations management and control techniques in both the manufacturing and service sectors. It emphasizes the critical nature of operations within the overall business structure, and the need to make strategic and tactically sound operations decisions. Topics include product and service design, process planning, operations technology, inventory management and logistics planning, and quality management and control systems.

  • MGMT 3660 - Introduction to Project Management

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites: MGMT 3100 .

    This course addresses project management from a management perspective rather than an engineering or mathematical perspective. It deals with the basic nature of managing projects, selecting projects, initiating them, operating and controlling projects, and terminating projects. The students should understand the demands made on the project manager and the nature of the manager’s interaction with the rest of the parent organization.

  • MGMT 4018 - Senior Honors Seminar

    (3-6 credits)
    Prerequisites: ECON 3088  and admission to the College of Business and Technology Honors Program.

    A seminar for College of Business and Technology honors students who are working on senior honors theses or other approved projects. Upon successful completion of the course, students will have demonstrated the ability to complete the research process by creating a written product suitable for submission to the College of Business and Technology faculty.
