  • NRSE 3010 - Pharmacology for Nursing

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites: Completion of second semester sophomore courses or admission to dual degree program or RN to BSN program.

    Focuses on the nurse’s role in safe and effective drug therapy through knowledge of major drug classifications and prototype drugs. Emphasizes pharmacotherapeutics, contraindications, adverse effects, and drug interactions. Examines legal/ethical considerations within the scope of nursing practice.

  • NRSE 3020 - Pharmacology for the Transitioning Licensed Practical Nurse

    (2 credits)
    Prerequisites: Successful completion of all first semester LPN to BSN courses.

    Provides Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), transitioning to the role of Registered Nurse (RN), with knowledge required to safely administer and monitor medications delivered via a variety of medication administration routes. Topics may include immunosuppressants and central nervous system medications administered via non-parenteral routes as well as intravenous administration of medications including cardiovascular, antidiabetic, analgesics, steroids, anti-infectives, parenteral fluids, blood components, and chemotherapeutic agents to clients in all types of care settings.

  • NRSE 3080 - Care of Children and Their Families

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites: Completion of first semester, junior courses;

    Corequisites: NRSE 3081 .

    The course focus is on the care of infants and children from birth to preadolescence experiencing developmental and/or situational circumstances that may affect health. Emphasis is placed on physical and developmental assessment, nursing interventions to promote or restore health, and assisting children and their families in adaptation to hospitalization and chronic or terminal illnesses.

  • NRSE 3091 - Care of Persons with Mental Illness Practicum

    (2 credits)
    Focuses on principles needed to provide therapeutic nursing care to children, adolescents, and/or adults in diverse environments with an emphasis on safety. Students participate in the care of persons with acute and chronic psychiatric-mental health illness by practicing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of psychiatric nursing care. Emphasis is given to care that promotes, ameliorates and restores mental health.

    Prerequisites: Admission to the LPN to BSN program.

    This course is designed as a transition course for the Licensed Practical Nurse pursuing a baccalaureate degree in nursing. The course focuses on validation and enhancement of previously learned skills, as well as the development of new knowledge and skills for the practice of professional nursing in the 21st century.

  • NRSE 3200 - Advancing to Professional Nursing Practice

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites: Admission to the RN-BSN Program.

    Transitional course for the registered nurse pursuing a baccalaureate degree in nursing. Focuses on the role and function of the professional nurse. Theories and concepts of professional nursing are explored in relation to historical perspectives and contemporary nursing practice, with emphasis on quality, safe, patient centered care, evidence-based practice, legal considerations and ethical responsibilities.

  • NRSE 3501 - Patient Centered Care 2 Practicum

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites: Completion of second semester Sophomore courses.

    Corequisites: NRSE 3500 

    Provides opportunities to apply nursing knowledge to the direct care of patients in a variety of settings, emphasizing care for adult clients in acute care. Students learn more advanced clinical skills and incorporate nursing process and critical thinking to make clinical decisions in patient care. Experience is gained in planning, implementing, and evaluating care for patients of medium complexity.

  • NRSE 3510 - Population, Community, and Public Health Nursing

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites: Completion of first semester junior courses or admission to RN to BSN program or successful completion of all first semester LPN-BSN courses.

    Addresses major concepts involved with population-focused, community-based nursing care in local, regional, state, national, and global communities. Principles of public health science are incorporated into health promotion and prevention services to support wellness. Evidence-based care is emphasized with special consideration for vulnerable populations, as well as lifestyle, environmental and cultural factors.

  • NRSE 3525 - Health Promotion and Research

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites: Completion of second semester sophomore courses, or admission to RN to BSN program, or successful completion of all first semester LPN-BSN courses.

    Focuses on health promotion across the lifespan. Emphasis is on the principles of health teaching for individuals and communities. Local, national and global health trends are examined. Students are introduced to the principles and application of evidence-based research and health promotion.

    (9 credits)
    Prerequisites: NRSE 3510  and NRSE 3350 .

    Corequisites: NRSE 3901 .

    Provides theoretical content related to population-based care of the childbearing family, including the reproductive health of adolescents and adults. Health promotion and illness care of the infant through adolescent client with emphasis on physical and developmental assessment, evidence-based nursing intervention to promote and restore health and the developmental implication of hospitalization. Includes the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of mental health across the lifespan with emphasis on patient safety, therapeutic communication, psychopathology, and evidence-based treatment.

    Prerequisites: NRSE 3510  and NRSE 3350 .

    Corequisites: NRSE 3900 .

    Provide clinical experience for the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) transitioning to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) role in the areas of the childbearing family, including the reproductive health of adolescents and adults, including principles needed to provide therapeutic nursing care of the infant through adolescent. This clinical also encompasses clinical care emphasizing the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of mental health across the lifespan.

  • NRSE 4062 - R.N. Practicum

    (5 credits)
    Prerequisites: Completion of all required RN to BSN courses or permission of Undergraduate Program Director.

    Corequisites: NRSE 4620 .

    A capstone clinical course which focuses on the preparation of the registered nurse for transition to professional nursing practice. Emphasis is placed on the development of leadership skills in the management of care for individuals/groups of clients, change processes to improve quality and safety of nursing care, information management, professionalism, interprofessional collaboration, ethical decision making and life-long learning.

  • NRSE 4110 - Population-based Nursing Care I

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites: Completion of second semester junior courses.

    This course is an introduction to the nursing care of populations and allows students to explore the public health sciences, health policy, public health ethics, health care delivery, and the community health nurse’s role. All students will assess the historical, social, political, economic, environmental, educational, health, and cultural aspects of a community and populations.
