  • ACCT 2010 - Principles of Accounting I

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites: Required freshman math courses as defined by the student’s major.

    An introductory course in the fundamental concepts and procedures of financial accounting for corporations. Emphasis is placed on the preparation and use of accrual-basis financial statements for decision-making. Additional topics include the regulatory environment, the role of ethics, and the application of technology in the accounting environment.

  • ACCT 4320 - Data Analytics for Accounting

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites: ACCT 3320 

    A case-based strategy class where students develop skills and knowledge related to data creation, data sharing, data analytics, data mining, data reporting and storage of accounting information within and across organizations. Students experience integration of real-world strategies, privacy and security concerns, ethical issues, technology-driven changes in practice, and the complexities of decision making. Technology is used to gather, transform, and analyze data into meaningful accounting information for decision making.

  • ACCT 4905 - Accountancy Internship

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites: Completed at least six credit hours at the upper-division level in the student’s major; junior or senior standing; and a 2.7 (minimum) GPA.

    Students are selected through a competitive process for assignments in approved business or public-sector organizations as interns under the supervision of the internship coordinator and field placement supervisors. Students may not earn more than three (3) semester credits for this course, which can be used as a free elective or an elective within a business major with prior approval by the department chair.

    (3 credits)
    This course provides a historical prospective of leadership theory. Various models will be discussed to allow the students to develop their personal leadership style. An analysis of trends in motivational studies, conflict resolution, and organizational change will be conducted. Professional specific knowledge will be reviewed to assure students transition into the health care system. Basic issues concerning human resource management will be included.

    (3 credits)
    Traditional and developing food cultures of the Mountain South. Topics include: the historical roots of Appalachian cookery; food and class in Appalachia; Native American and African influences on mountain cuisine; immigrant cooking in the mountains; the rituals of the mountain table; the products of the land and larder; traditional food preservation techniques and beliefs; and the emergence and viability of sustainable agriculture and aquaculture.
