  • CDIS 4027 - Speech and Hearing Science II

    (4 credits)
    Prerequisites: CDIS 4017 .

    A study of the physiologic acoustics of the auditory periphery, neurophysiology of the speech and hearing systems, and an introduction to research tools in speech and hearing science. The laboratory portion of the course provides interactive demonstrations pertaining to the physiologic acoustics of the auditory periphery, neurophysiology of the speech and hearing systems, and an introduction to instrumentation used in speech and hearing science.

  • COBH 2000 - ESSENTIALS

    (3 credits)
    Teaches the essential skills, strategies, and expertise necessary to improve and advance low-resource settings. Provides an overview of selected International Health needs and current improvement strategies. The international need, theory/current technology, and construction of water filters, cook stoves/food preservation, sanitary toilets, and basic shelters are covered. Basic construction techniques from low-resource settings are used to construct various shelters. Additional topics ranging from micro-economies, malaria control, and global resources are introduced. Admission to Public Health Major.

  • COBH 2066 - Personal and Community Wellness

    (3 credits)
    Provides knowledge and skills needed to successfully make personal health behavior changes, assist others in the process of changing health behaviors, and work within a group to enact community-wide health initiatives. The course includes didactic information from nationally recognized sources and presentations from community experts covering top mental and physical health issues. In addition, the course provides interactive skill development activities to enhance students’ ability to act as wellness peer-educators, role models, and team members.

  • COBH 2950 - Emergency/Disaster Preparedness for Home and Community

    (3 credits)
    Exposes students to essential components of emergency and disaster preparedness for individual homes and communities. Students are introduced to various preparedness activities and operations necessary in anticipation of emergency situations. Emphasis is placed on customizing preparation activities to the home and community environments. The unique issues of special needs individuals and at-risk populations are explored.

  • COBH 3950 - Emergency and Disaster Preparedness for Organizations & Systems

    (3 credits)
    Exposes students to essential components of emergency/disaster preparedness operations and activities on an organizational and systems level.  Students are introduced to various preparedness operations for a variety of settings in anticipation of emergency/disaster events.  Emphasis is placed on developing students’ leadership abilities and abilities to serve as a preparedness resource person for organizations and various systems within the community.

  • COBH 4377 - Health Communication

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites: Permission of the instructor.

    A study of the interpersonal, group, organizational, and public communication processes that shape beliefs, decisions and behavior regarding health, sickness, and health care. The course examines attitudes and actions of various participants in health communication, including citizens, health professionals, and those engaged in the public debate of health issues. Students cannot receive credit for both COMM 4377  and COBH 4377.

  • COBH 4457 - Emerging Technologies for the Health Professions

    (3 credits)
    Prepares health professionals for the ever changing technological workplace demands. Fuses new technologies with practical applications. Students are taught skills to present and manipulate information in the electronic age and reduce repeated task/events into time-saving solutions. Health education and training strategies are combined with emerging digital tools to develop training components.

  • COBH 4937 - Stress Management

    (3 credits)
    Acquaints the student with the literature and research on stress and provides a holistic introduction into the theory and practice of stress management that encompasses physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual dimensions of stress responses. The course uses an experiential approach to applying coping strategies and relaxation techniques covered in class by requiring students to develop and implement a personal stress management project.

  • CSCI 1200 - Adventures in Computing

    (3 credits)
    This course is intended for majors and non-majors. Students gain a working knowledge of programming basics, problem solving, algorithm development, debugging strategies, and a modern programming environment. Students also acquire skills that can be applied to problem solving using programs and the practice of computer science. Students who have completed CSCI 1250 or its equivalent with a B- or better may not take this course.

  • CSCI 1250 - Introduction to Computer Science I

    (4 credits)
    Students who are required to take learning support math must successfully complete it before taking CSCI 1250. Introduction to all aspects of the programming and problem-solving process and the elements of good programming style. A high-level language will be used as a vehicle for introducing these concepts. Laboratory use of the computer in designing, coding, debugging, and executing programs is an integral part of the course.

    Prerequisites: CSCI 1210 .

    This course will cover topics to help students develop professional and innovative (client-side only) Web applications. Topics will include current tools and techniques to increase the usefulness and effectiveness of Web sites, advanced Web style guidelines, integration of current Web standards, graphic design theory, appropriate use of colors, writing for the Web, introduction to usability testing, and real-world implementation considerations.

    (3 credits)
    Prerequisites:  B- or better in CSCI 1250  and C- or better in CSCI 1900 

    A study of the physical implementation of the computer including mathematical and logical foundations, component-level design, and an introduction to machine architecture. Topics include Boolean algebra, data representation, logic gates, combinational and sequential circuit design, memory cells, memory subsystems, memory hierarchy, I/O subsystems, I/O handling, interrupts, instruction representation, error detection, and serial protocols.
