Biostatistics and epidemiology are integral to public health. Biostatisticians are key members of healthcare and public health teams and determine the best sampling design, calculate the predictive power of a statistical model, and consider the most appropriate analysis plans. Epidemiologists investigate the distribution and determinants of health related issues and events. Epidemiology’s origins stem from infectious disease outbreak investigations and now these methods are used for a wide variety of topics. Now more than ever, we see the need for biostatisticians and epidemiologists to address pertinent health issues.
