MICR 6800 - Microbial Pathogenesis

(3 credits)
Prerequisites: BIOM 5010 /BIOM 6010 , BIOM 5020 /BIOM 6020 , and MICR 5000 /MICR 6000  or permission of the instructor. The objective of this course is to expose students to the current understanding of microbial pathogenesis in humans. Topics will focus on how pathogens modify, disrupt, and utilize cellular functions for their own purposes. The significance of these interactions in terms of both pathogenesis and host cell biology will be discussed. The format will consist of a combination of lectures, critical readings of the primary literature, and student presentations. Heavy emphasis will be placed on student participation. (alternating spring semesters).
