APPE 6004 - Ambulatory Care/Primary Care Practice I

(4 credits)
Prerequisites: Good standing as a fourth year student in professional program of the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy. This pharmacy practice experience is focused on providing patient-centered care of patients who are receiving care in a clinic, physician office or other ambulatory / primary care setting. Students will gain experience in communication and assessment skills, physical assessment, chronic disease management and preventative care, and therapy modifications for special patient groups. Other skills developed include drug literature analysis, patient education and counseling, interprofessional communication, and designing and implementing safe, efficacious and cost effective drug therapy to the patient.
