(4 credits)Prerequisites: GEOL 1040, MATH 1920 or permission of instructor. Focus is on the description and analysis of geological structures within the Earth’s crust, with an introduction to global tectonics. Includes the description of geological structures; the kinematics and dynamics of folding and faulting; stress, strain, deformation and rheology; introduction to dislocation theory; principles of plate tectonics; micro-structural analysis; and selected orogenic systems of the world. Three lectures and two laboratory sessions weekly. (fall, odd years)
