SOWK 2400 - Social Institutions In Appalachian Culture
(3 credits)Designed to provide an understanding and appreciation of the unique cultural characteristics of rural and Appalachian people, with a focus on the impact of major social institutions, e. g. , family, religion, social welfare, education, and economics. The role of generalist social work practice in rural areas and in Appalachia is explored in order to prepare students to become more effective service providers in the region.
