SOWK 4367 - Seminar in Alcohol and Drug Abuse(3 credits) This survey course provides a basic understanding of alcohol and drug abuse. Students are introduced to the various classifications of drugs, abuse symptomatology, and causes of abuse. The characteristics of high-risk groups are examined along with various treatment models and preventive efforts. General systems theory provides the framework for looking at this societal problem and professional involvement with it. Attention is given to the regulations controlling the use of drugs in society.
