BIOL 5337 - Plant Systematics(4 credits) Prerequisites: BIOL 1110/1111, BIOL 1120/1121, BIOL 1130/1131, or equivalent.
Flowering plant classification and evolution. Characters and methods of traditional plant taxonomy, and computer-based phylogenetic methods using morphological and molecular data sets will be introduced. Plants will be studied in field and lab, and students will use data collected from plant specimens and from GenBank to conduct phylogenetic analysis in various angiosperm groups. Two hours of lecture and four hours of laboratory per week.
