SOWK 5367 - Seminar in Alcohol and Drug Abuse

(3 credits)

Provides a basic understanding of alcohol and drug abuse including the various classifications of drugs, abuse symptomatology, and causes of abuse. The characteristics of high-risk groups are examined along with various treatment models and preventive efforts. General systems theory provides the framework for looking at this societal problem and professional involvement with it. Attention is given to the regulations controlling the use of drugs in society.
