PMSC 3123 - Introduction to Physical Chemistry

(1 credit)
The physicochemical principles that impact a drug’s performance both on the Pharmacy shelf as well as after it is consumed by the patient, are discussed in this course. Physical or physicochemical phenomena like wetting, solubility, ionization and more will determine how well (or how poorly) a marketed pharmaceutical will perform. This knowledge will help student understand why dosage forms are constructed in a certain way, and apply this knowledge to counsel patients about the right use for a medication as well as use the correct procedures when making drug formulations in a compounding Pharmacy.
