OBGY 3004 - Junior Obstetrics/Gynecology Clerkship(10 credits/5 weeks or 12 credits/6 weeks) Required of all generalist track third-year medical students. The six-week OB/GYN Clerkship consists of experiences that will expose the student to the discipline of Obstetrics and Gynecology. During the training, there are specialty rotations and academic preparation for departmental testing and the nationally standardized NBME exam. The specialty rotations include: Night Float; Inpatient OB Service; Outpatient OB Service; Ambulatory Clinic Service; and Gynecology Surgery Service. Students will be arbitrarily assigned to rotations and all students will rotate through all rotations. The Obstetrical Services include low risk OB evaluation; high risk clinical OB experience including High Risk Diabetic Clinic; Labor and Delivery assignment; and Ultrasound exposure. The Gynecology Service will expose students to the subspecialties of the discipline including Urogynecology; Reproductive Endocrinology; and Gynecological Oncology. The student will experience both inpatient and outpatient care in these subspecialties. Students will be assigned to the Labor & Delivery floor of Johnson City Medical Center; the Outpatient Clinics at the Palma Robinson Clinical Education Building; as well as Holston Valley Medical Center, Sycamore Shoals, Franklin Woods or Johnson City Medical Center Operating Room Suite. Night Float Rotation will include up to five call nights starting at 5:00 PM and lasting until 5:00 AM.
