RPCT 3009 - Junior RPCT Primary Care Clerkship(20 credits/10 weeks or 24 credits/12 weeks) Required of all RPCT third-year medical students. In addition to the other required clerkships, Rural Primary Care Track Students participate in a 12-week rural-focused clerkship in place of MS3 Family Medicine and Underserved Medicine Clerkships. It is a 12-week clinical experience in a rural or underserved setting with the majority of the clerkship spent with primary care providers. The objectives of the RPCT Primary Care Clerkship are a combination of the generalist Family Medicine and Underserved Medicine clerkships. One week of the RPCT Clerkship is devoted to a health fair which includes didactics, skills training, and ACLS. One week is devoted to a family medicine residency experience in either Johnson City, Kingsport, or Bristol. The student may request additional weeks in the FM residency IF they plan on doing an FM residency. During this clerkship, students will spend time rotating through different sites in East Tennessee and SW Virginia. Most of this experience will require overnight stays Monday through Friday paid for by Rural and Community Programs at their approved locations.
