SPAN 5507 - Fantasy and Magical Realism in the Spanish Short Story(3 credits) Prerequisites: SPAN 3030
Considers Spanish and Spanish-American short stories from the 19th and 20th centuries. Studies the 20th century aesthetic movement of Magical Realism in Spanish. Special interest is given to the theories of the Uncanny, post-colonialism, fantasy, and psychological readings of literature. Studies authors including: Gabriel García Márquez, Jorge Luís Borges, Julio Cortázar, Juan Rulfo, Isabel Allende, Alejo Carpentier, José Donoso, and Miguel Ángel Asturias.
