IIID 6800 - Microbial Pathogenesis

(3 credits)
Prerequisites: BIOM 6010  and BIOM 6020  and IIID 6000   and MICR 6300 , or permission of instructor.

Explores microbial pathogenesis in humans. Topics focus on how pathogens modify, disrupt, and utilize host physiologic and cellular functions for their own purposes. The significance of these interactions in terms of better understanding both pathogenesis and host biology are discussed. Additionally, the course emphasizes critical evaluation of primary literature to assist in developing novel hypotheses and designing experiments that answer critical questions in the field of microbial pathogenesis research.
