ENTC 4350 - Biomedical Instrumentation I(4 credits) Prerequisites: ENTC 3320 .
Study of the principles and applications of biomedical instrumentation, with emphasis on the interaction of medical equipment and the human body. Topics include hospital equipment safety; biopotentials, electrodes, and transducers; the design and operation of physiological amplifiers, patient monitors, IV pumps, and related devices; and the flow of information between patient and machine. The course also examines potential unsafe conditions, medical indications and complications, and strategies for risk mitigation through preventative and corrective actions. Laboratory activities focus on medical circuit analysis, safety and operational testing, documentation, and the use of test results to verify equipment function and improve clinical processes.
