ANCB 6050 - Cell Biology(4 credits) Prerequisites: Permission of the instructor. An introduction to the cell as the fundamental unit of life, with emphasis on what we know about cells and how that knowledge is obtained. The course focuses primarily on eukaryotic cells and includes content on cellular evolution, basic genetic mechanisms, structure and function of chromatin, the cell cycle, mitosis, meiosis, and cytogenetics. In addition, emphasis is placed on the various organelle systems in eukaryotic cells and how they interact with membranes and the cytoskeleton. Concepts related to cell signaling, developmental biology, immunology and neurobiology are also introduced in this course. (fall, spring)
