(3 credits) A general survey of the American Civil War Era designed both for history and nonhistory majors. It deals with some of the major questions in American history from 1848 through 1877, such as why did the Civil War occur, why did the North win, how did the war impact the home fronts, was Reconstruction revolutionary, and what is the meaning of the Civil War in modern America.
