Epidemiology is a fascination and a passion for many of us.  With its roots deep in infectious diseases, the epidemiologic pendulum can easily swing back as new threats to global health, such as SARS, MERS, and Ebola strike.  Person, place and time are also set boundaries of epidemiology.  We use these boundaries creatively to investigate, evaluate and monitor population health across venue and over time.  Our goal is to understand the consequences of epidemiologic research and work within multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary teams to learn and determine what interventions, behavioral, environmental, policy-based, will be most effective while considering person, place and time.

Biostatistics, like epidemiology, is a pillar of public health.  Biostatistics is a dynamic field dedicated to the creation of innovative theory and the use of these methods as integral to interdisciplinary research in human health and the life sciences.  Whether it be to determine the best sampling design, calculate the predictive power of a statistical model, or consider an independent validation set and the corresponding residual sum of squares, the biostatistician is an integral member of the research team.
