The Coaching Minor has been designed to enable students to develop competencies necessary to coach in public or private schools or recreational settings. Emphasis is placed on psychology and physiology of sport, care and prevention of athletic injury, and advanced skill in coaching. The Department of Sport, Exercise, Recreation, & Kinesiology also offers minors in Park and Recreation, Sport Management, Coaching, and Physical Education.

Coaching Minor Requirements: 18 credits

A minor is a secondary area of study outside of the major program of study with a structured curriculum composed of at least 18 credits of which at least 9 credits must be at the 3000-level or above.

Required Courses: 15 credits

PEXS 2955 - Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries (3 credits)
PEXS 3025 - Sports Officiating (3 credits)
PEXS 3510 - Foundations of Physical Education and Sport (3 credits)
PEXS 4600 - Athletic Coaching Practicum (3 credits)
SALM 4210 - Legal Issues and Risk Management in Sport and Leisure Activities (3 credits)

Advisor Approved Electives: 3 credits

Choose 3 credits from the following:

PEXS 3095 - Teaching Individual/Dual Sport Skills (3 credits)
PEXS 4001 - Teaching Team Sport Skills (3 credits)
SALM 4215 - Social Psychology of Sport and Leisure (3 credits)
SALM 4225 - Management of Sport and Leisure Activities (3 credits)
