The Master of Science in Sport Science and Coach Education includes concentrations in applied sport science, and strength and conditioning. The concentration in applied sport science is designed to prepare students for positions in sport science, sport coaching, strength and conditioning, and advanced graduate study in sport science. The strength and conditioning concentration is 100% online and is designed to prepare students to assume roles in strength and conditioning, and sport coaching.
Note: The Applied Sport Science Concentration admits students only for the fall. Application deadline is May 1st for fall admission.
Program Admission Requirements
- An undergraduate degree in physical education, exercise science, or closely related field;
- 3.0 cumulative undergraduate grade point average on a 4.0 scale; international applicants should consult the ETSU Graduate Catalog for more specific information on requirements for countries using different grading scales;
- Official scores on the general portion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE);
- Resume and contact information for at least three letters of recommendation. These letters should be submitted through the ETSU School of Graduate Studies online system at https://gradletters.etsu.edu/;
- Essay explaining goals, career expectations, and reasons for desiring to study in sport science and coach education at ETSU.

Thesis: The thesis option requires 33 total credits. This includes 3 credits of advisor approved electives.
Non-Thesis: The non-thesis option requires 36 total credits. This includes 6 credits of advisor approved electives.
Sport Science and Coach Education Core Requirements: 15 credits
Students in the Applied Sport Science Concentration must take these courses onsite unless otherwise specified by the coordinator.
Applied Sport Science Concentration: 12 credits
Students in the Applied Sport Science Concentration must take these courses onsite unless otherwise specified by the coordinator.
Thesis Option: 6 credits
Electives are chosen in consultation with the Graduate Program Coordinator.
Non-Thesis Option: 9 credits
Electives are chosen in consultation with the Graduate Program Coordinator.
