The Higher Education Leadership concentration is appropriate for those interested in pursuing entry or mid-level positions in higher education and student personnel settings. Students in the program will increase their knowledge of leadership principles and how they apply to the various areas of the institution and to working with students and other members of the university community.

Most students will matriculate through the program taking six credits each term, although students who have graduate assistantships (G.A.s) will usually take nine credits. 

Program Admission Requirements


Individuals applying to the Higher Education concentration must meet the general requirements for admission to the Graduate School, transfer of credit, and time limitations specified in the front section of this catalog. In addition, applicants must meet the specific requirements for admission to the department identified in this catalog.

In addition to the admission requirements for the Graduate School application, applicants must submit:

  1. A current resume;
  2. The names and contact information of three academic or professional references.

Applicants will participate in a personal interview.

Applicants are encouraged to begin matriculation in the fall semester, however, applications are accepted for spring term as well.

Applications are due at 11:59 p.m. ET on the following dates:

Matriculation Limits


The time limit for the master’s degree is six (6) years.
