The minor in art provides students with the opportunity to have hands-on experience creating art by selecting courses from a range of disciplines including drawing, fibers, photography, digital material studies, painting, sculpture, jewelry/metals, graphic design, ceramics, and printmaking. In addition, students will engage in critique and discussion and will have the opportunity to study the history of art. The requirements for the minor consist of Studio Foundations courses, Art History courses, and Studio Art courses to total a minimum of 21 credit hours, with 6 credit hours being at the 1000 level, 9 credit hours at the 2000 level, and 6 credit hours at the 3000 level or above. Many 2xxx and above classes include prerequisites, therefore students are encouraged to consult with a departmental advisor and review course descriptions prior to selecting and registering for class.
Students with an Art major concentrating in Art History (ARTH) may take an Art minor in Studio Art (ARTA). In this case, one Art History Survey course and ARTA 1110 and ARTA 1140 in the minor (required for all majors in art and design) will count towards both the major and the minor.
