The Music Composition minor is designed for students with a basic understanding of music theory that wish to explore the composition of instrumental and vocal music.

Music Composition Minor Requirements: 20 credits

MUSC 1030 - Introduction to Music (3 credits)
MUSC 3370 - Composition I (3 credits)
MUSC 3380 - Composition II (3 credits)
Applied Composition

Must achieve Level II and take at least one semester of applied composition at Level II.
MUSC 1861 - Applied Composition Level I (1-2 credits)
MUSC 2961 - Applied Composition Level II (1-2 credits)
MUSC 3961 - Applied Composition Level III (1-2 credits)
Composition Electives

Choose 5 credits from the following:
MUSC 3420 - Counterpoint (3 credits)
MUSC 4000 - Commercial Songwriting I (2 credits)
MUSC 4005 - Commercial Songwriting II (2 credits)
MUSC 4260 - Jazz Arranging and Composition (2 credits)
MUSC 4600 - Orchestration and Arranging (3 credits)

Minor Information

A minor is a secondary area of study outside of the major program of study with a structured curriculum composed of at least 15 credits, of which at least 6 credits must be at the 3000-level or above.
