The Department of History offers a Graduate Certificate in history that provides an array of courses for students interested in graduate-level studies in American, European, and World History. The certificate allows students to research historical topics with a focus on cultural, intellectual, political, social, and public history. Students can also complete courses across a range of topics for academic, personal, and professional development.
Admission Requirements
In addition to the admissions criteria set by the ETSU Graduate School, the following will be required:
- Minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. An applicant with a GPA lower than 3.0 can request an interview and may be asked to complete a writing sample at that time (in addition to one of the writing samples mentioned below).
- A writing sample, such as a paper that received credit in a college course (undergraduate or graduate) or a personal statement describing your interest in the certificate.
Application materials must be submitted to Graduate School.
Current graduate students at ETSU need to submit all application materials listed above and a Dual Degree form.
Application Assessment and Review
Completed applications will be evaluated by the Department of History Graduate Committee.
Articulation Agreement
A student who completes the Graduate Certificate in History may transfer all 12 certificate credits into the master’s program with approval of the Department of History Graduate Committee. Only credits that meet GPA requirements and are completed within the ETSU six-year matriculation period will be accepted.
