The Department of Literature and Language currently offers beginning and intermediate courses in Mandarin Chinese. Students taking these courses learn to speak and read in Chinese, and they also learn proper brush techniques in writing Chinese characters. Our minor in Mandarin Chinese includes advanced language courses as well as courses in Chinese culture.

Minor Pre-requirements (6 credit hours)

• CHIN 1010 - Beginning Chinese I (3 credits)
• CHIN 1020 - Beginning Chinese II (3 credits)

Minor Requirements (21 credit hours)

Required Core (18 credit hours)

• CHIN 2010 - Intermediate Chinese I (3 credits)
• CHIN 2020 - Intermediate Chinese II (3 credits)
• CHIN 3016 - Chinese Conversation/Composition I (3 credits)
• CHIN 3026 - Chinese Conversation/Composition II (3 credits)
• CHIN 4016 - Advanced Chinese I (3 credits)
• CHIN 4026 - Advanced Chinese II (3 credits)

Guided Electives (3 credit hours)

• Take one from the following:

• CHIN 3011 - Introduction to Chinese Culture (3 credits)
• CHIN 4976 - Special Topics in Chinese (3 credits)

• A student may also choose an alternative elective related to Asian culture, history, or politics if approved in advance by the Chinese advisor.
