ETSU 1020 - Foundations of Student Success

(3 credits)
ETSU 1020 equips students with knowledge and skills essential for success in college and in their lives after graduation. By practicing time management and study skills students become self-directed learners. By learning how universities are organized, how to use institutional services, and how to interact with others in the university skillfully and respectfully, they learn to navigate ETSU and other complex organizations. The course encourages students to experience the diversity of people and ideas at ETSU, thereby preparing them to live and work in increasingly diverse workplaces and communities. Students explore options for careers and academic majors by identifying their personal strengths, interests and values; completing the SIGI career inventory; and critically evaluating information about possible careers and majors. They learn principles of personal finance useful in college and after graduation. Students also learn positive ways to cope with stress, anxiety and depression, which may arise when they experience uncertainty, doubts and setbacks in pursuing their goals.
