PMIN 3200 - Integrated Environment for Applied Learning & Skills II

(2 credits)
Prerequisites: PMSC 3122  and PMSC 3133 . Corequisites: PMSC 3233   Integrated skills lab series runs the entirety of the didactic curriculum.  The skills lab will employ active learning strategies such as scientific experiments, wet labs, pharmaceutical compounding, patient case discussions, and presentations in order to integrate topics throughout the curriculum to augment foundational knowledge and build the skills necessary to be a pharmacist.  This course involves processing a prescription or medication order, the preparation and dispensing of a pharmaceutical solution, emulsion, suspension, semi-solid and solid drug delivery systems and the introduction and practice of the patient counseling skills necessary for proper use of the compounded product.  During the compounding sessions, emphasis will be placed on the selection of proper excipients, based on physicochemical principles, and the procedures and techniques used in extemporaneous compounding each type of preparation.  Other sessions will emphasize patient communication and advising of selection of self-care items and products.
