ECED 4140 - Program Development for Young Children(3 credits) Prerequisites: Students enrolled in this course must have completed ECED 2010 and ECED 3220 .
This course will build on students’ existing knowledge of the history of Early Childhood Education. It will introduce theories of learning and development with an emphasis on constructivist theory, which is central to our Early Childhood Program’s philosophy. Class activities and field experiences allow students to develop an understanding of the relationship between these theories and developmentally appropriate practice. Early Childhood Curriculum Models (Pre-K-3rd grade), the role of the teacher, and the Code of Ethics for teaching will be explored. Candidates will learn about constructivist theory through readings, discussions, and practical application activities that will allow them to contrast this theory with other models of learning and development.
