The online BS degree completion program in dental hygiene is limited to licensed dental hygienists who hold an associate degree in dental hygiene from an accredited US or Canadian dental hygiene program. All prospective students must make application to the program and the university. This completion degree program is designed to build on the dental hygienist’s prior education and experiential learning and its flexibility and online format allows the working hygienist to complete a BS degree at her or his own pace. All course requirements for this program are online. However, all students are required to attend a one-day on-campus program orientation. After successful completion of DHYG 3100, students are allowed to progress in the program as long as they do not make two D’s or one F in any of the online dental hygiene courses. Otherwise, there are no grade point requirements other than passing the required courses. General Program Information
To earn a degree from ETSU, there are specific course requirements established by ETSU, by the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR), by each college, and by each department. All students must meet the degree requirements at each of these levels outlined in the following list:

Communication
9 credits, consisting of 6 credits of written composition and 3 credits of oral communication. Written Composition

3 - 4 credits, consisting of one of the following: Dental Hygiene Major Requirements
In addition to meeting general education core requirements for the university, completion degree students will complete 17-18 hours of online dental hygiene course credits. Successful completion of DHYG 3100 will allow transfer for associate degree courses consisting of 46 lower division hours and upper division course credit of 16 hours for DHYG 3031, 4021, 4121, 3120, and 4000. At the present time the following dental hygiene courses have been designated as intensive courses to meet university general education requirements. Writing-Intensive (WI) courses are DHYG 4010 and DHYG 4120 . Oral Communication-Intensive (OCI) courses are DHYG 4010 and DHYG 4130 . Our Using Information Technology (UIT) or technology intensive course is DHYG 4020 . Dental Hygiene Completion degree students will meet ETSU requirements for intensive courses by taking these courses within their major. |
