Graduate Certificate in Storytelling

The Graduate Certificate in Storytelling is a 21-credit hour post-baccalaureate sequence containing core masters-level coursework in storytelling performance skills and practice (Basic and Advanced Storytelling, Historical Foundations, Practicum, Vocal Training, and electives) without certain academically-oriented requirements of the Master’s degree such as Research Methods, Linguistics, and Thesis.

Admission: Completed application form with essay; one official transcript from each undergraduate and graduate institution attended, three letters of recommendation from academic or professional mentors or associates.

If, after completion of the Storytelling Certificate, a student subsequently applies and is admitted into a M.A. in Professional Communication with a concentration in Storytelling, all 21 credits from the certificate may be considered for approval for transfer into the M.A. Professional Communication program.

Required Courses: 15 credit hours

• STOR 5140 - Foundations of Storytelling Performance (3 credits)
• STOR 5230 - Advanced Solo Performance (3 credits)
• STOR 5890 - History of Performance Traditions (3 credits)
• STOR 5820 - Vocal Training for Professionals (3 credits)
• STOR 5241 - Practicum: Storytelling (1-3 credits)

Electives: 6 credit hours

Approved electives from Storytelling Program catalogs or related electives with approval of advisor.
