Archaeology Minor Program Information

Web Address: www.etsu.edu/cas/sociology/anthropology/minor.php

The Archaeology minor focuses on cultural resource management (CRM) in archaeology and cross-disciplinary courses (e. g., geographic information systems, or GIS). The minor offers relevant courses to address specific skills demanded in the field today. Students will learn firsthand modern techniques for conducting archaeological research in applied settings. Most available archaeology jobs are not in an academic setting but in the realm of CRM, which accounts for approximately 90% of archaeological projects conducted in the United States. This reality stems from Federal laws, such as the National Historic Preservation Act, which mandate that undertakings involving Federal monies, permits, and/or properties assess the impacts on cultural resources (e. g., the archaeological record).
