The dance minor provides education and training for students who have an interest in learning the creative and technical skills essential to the artistic process of dance. The minor presents experiences for all who love dance, from beginning enthusiast to skilled dancer. The minor program requires completion of 21 credits distributed among dance courses in technical skills and movement theory, history, creative process, and performance and production. Dance minor students also have opportunities to audition, perform, understudy, and work backstage for the Department of Theatre and Dance plays, musicals, and dance concerts.

Dance Minor: 21 credits

At least 9 credits must be at the 3000-level or above.

Note:

DANC 1500 Introduction to Dance fulfills the fine arts general education requirement and focuses on the appreciation of dance as an expressive, social, theatrical, and cultural form of performance.  DANC 1500 Introduction to Dance does not count toward the dance minor.  However, all dance minors are strongly encouraged to take DANC 1500 Introduction to Dance, thereby fulfilling their fine arts general education requirement and laying the groundwork for their studies in the dance minor.

Minor Requirement

A minor is a secondary area of study outside of the major program of study with a structured curriculum composed of at least 18 credits of which at least 9 credits must be at the 3000-level or above.
