This certificate places a strong emphasis on planning and development at the local and small-town level, exploring potential planning-related careers in local government and small-to-medium-sized urban areas, with a specialized focus on the balancing of urban expansion with the preservation of the region’s rural character. The certificate program equips students with the specialized knowledge and skills to tackle developmental challenges in Urban Planning and Regional Development.  

Admission to the Program


Applicants must meet the admission requirements established by the Graduate School.

Articulation Agreement


A student who completes the Graduate Certificate in Urban Planning and Regional Development and later wishes to pursue the Masters in Public Administration may transfer the certificate credits into the masters degree with approval of the degree graduate coordinator and the Graduate School. All transfer credit must meet GPA requirements and must be within the six-year matriculation limits.
