The Division of Theatre and Dance seeks to enhance the cultural environment by creating performances that educate and entertain our students, faculty, staff, and members of the community. The Division produces multiple main-stage productions plus student-directed showcase productions on a yearly basis.
Course offerings include performance courses in acting and dance, as well as production-oriented courses focusing on directing, stagecraft and design. Through a combination of course work and hands-on experiences the Division of Theatre and Dance prepares students to work successfully in all aspects of professional theatre, film, television, or other areas of the entertainment industry. Many of our students choose to go on to pursue advanced study in graduate or professional training programs.
To complete the B.A. in Theatre, a student must complete a total of 120 credit hours of course work. In addition to the University’s General Education requirements and the B.A. degree requirements, students must complete 36 hours in Theatre. Students must also complete a minor in a department of their choosing. A 2.0 grade point average must be obtained in the major, the minor, overall, and in all courses taken at ETSU in order to graduate. Prior to graduation, students must also complete a major field test in addition to the standard University exit examination.
For additional information about the Theatre degree, students should contact the Department of Communication (phone: 423-439-7676, email: communicationdept@etsu.edu). If you wish to seek advising about a Theatre degree, you should consult the How to Contact Your Advisor website. (www.etsu.edu/advisement/continuingstudents/default.aspx#Find).
