Counseling and Human Services offers programs that focus on the application of development and other psychological and humanistic principles in a wide variety of settings including home, school, and community. Courses in the social and behavioral sciences are provided both for majors and students in other academic areas. Areas of emphasis include developmental and applied psychology, assessment, diversity studies, human services, service learning and counseling.

 

The Department of Counseling and Human Services offers one undergraduate program leading to the Bachelor of Science degree: human services. In addition, minors in human development and learning and family studies are available through our department. Also offered are programs leading to the Master of Arts degree in Counseling with the following concentrations: clinical mental health, college counseling/student affairs, and school counseling.

The Human Services program bases its mission in service to the academic, professional, and educational communities of the region and nation. The activities of this program are multiple, offering a baccalaureate in Human Services as well as minors in Human Development and Learning and Family Studies. The program is designed to provide a human and behavioral science background for persons interested in entering professions such as counseling, case management, teaching, program administration, and similar endeavors. Human service practitioners work in a variety of settings for a broad range of organizations dedicated to helping others transition through their developmental issues and processes. To the university, the program supports General Education requirements with SRVL 1020  and HDAL 2340 .
