The Department of Engineering Technology, Surveying, and Digital Media in the College of Business & Technology provides advisement to East Tennessee State University students interested in completing preparatory coursework for transfer to baccalaureate engineering degree programs. While ETSU does not offer an undergraduate degree in engineering, pre-engineering students work closely with their academic advisor and intended transfer institution to develop an appropriate plan of study to fulfill course prerequisites, as well as admission and program requirements.
Engineering programs are quite rigorous, requiring a strong knowledge of mathematics, science, and technology. Students should expect to begin studies in math and science in their first semester. Much of the coursework in these areas is taken in sequence; thus, students should plan carefully and stay in close communication with their academic advisor. Questions concerning pre-engineering should be directed to the Department of Engineering Technology, Surveying, and Digital Media, P.O. Box 70552, Johnson City, TN 37614; 423-439-7813.
Although requirements vary among engineering disciplines, and from institution to institution, the following courses (at a minimum) are recommended for students seeking admission to most programs.
|
Humanities & Fine Arts, Social Sciences, History, Communication, Electives*
Additional Information
*Different schools may require different and/or additional prerequisite courses. Students should consult with their academic advisor and the intended transfer institution when making course selections. In all cases, the intended transfer institution will determine whether a course is transferrable and how it may be counted towards a degree.
