ECED 5650 - Language and Literacy from an Emergent Inquiry Perspective(3 credits) This course presents a perspective on the power of re-representation as a tool for communication through many emerging languages that include: drawing, writing, constructing with multimedia and communicating. Theories of language acquisition and language enrichment are explored within the context of the emergent curriculum practices. Documentation of language learning is investigated for its many potentials in relation to literacy development: assessing learning for planning curriculum, reflecting on practice for professional development, as well as sharing learning with children and their families.
